TV in the kitchen

Hi Everyone
 Happy Tuesday
Do you have a television in your kitchen?
 New kitchen designs today  include a place for a television
some even  treating the TV as another kitchen appliance
This kitchen from
 is a perfect example of this new trend
This is a little over the top for me

Many people don't even think of putting a TV in their kitchens
I was one of those people
 We do not watch much TV so
having a TV was not even part of our original design
But  when I found this
small silver television I knew it would work great in the kitchen and now
I have to admit I have become a fan
 {Love}
 watching cooking shows while I cook  pretending
that I can cook as good as Paula or Giada
 and hoping that somehow magically
 I will be able to put together some of the amazing food that they prepare

We do not have the TV on when we eat dinner together
 but it is nice to have the TV in the kitchen for
Superbowl and World Series parties
  Oscar parties too
If you do decide to add a TV in your kitchen here are a few tips

I highly recommend not making the TV the main focus in your kitchen
  Try to hang the TV at eye level for the person cooking
Shop for a Television that is not black
{wish someone would make a TV that can match the color of the walls in a room}
 Do you have a TV in your Kitchen too?

Dutch Door

Hi Everyone
Happy Thursday

{Love}
this kitchen and check out the jelly jar on the counter too cute
 but it is the dutch door that really caught my eye
it is so simple and pretty
We have talked about putting a dutch door in our kitchen for awhile now
and we finally found the perfect door
at Home Depot

We found it when we were looking for our Christmas tree
someone had ordered it and returned it
 so the door was drastically discounted

 We will replace the door to the garden off the kitchen
{the one with the wreath}
it is perfect for our dear puppy Finley
we can keep the bottom of the door closed to keep him inside
and open the top to bring the air into the kitchen
at the same time

It has been raining here in California
very cold and dark outside  so to warm up the kitchen
I decorated the oranges with  some cloves  ....
while I kept looking at the door and dreaming of
how the kitchen will look with  our new dutch door
so hard to be patient
I feel like a kid

Smells so good
here is a heart
♥
for you

Vintage Blue and a remodel

Hi Everyone
 Happy Thursday
This little blue chippy shabby vintage basket
was found at a fabulous store in
Coronado called
You have heard me mention this store before
 I have been making weekly trips to Coronado
to supervise updates for a beach house remodel
it has been fun to rediscover this fun little shop filled with
 so many adorable vintage treasures

It is rare to find these type of vintage baskets
completely in tact
the handle and the sides are all there and not one piece is broken
{Love}
  the size perfect for flower arrangements made with
freshly picked flowers from the garden

The original tin insert is a bonus
 and it actually holds water
so the flowers will have plenty to drink

{warning the next few pictures are ugly}

The beach house is in demo mode
or what we affectionately refer to as the
ugly
not so fun
before stage

The house is taking shape and looking open
 and filled with  much needed light
as you can see the kitchen was completely gutted
 new windows have just been installed
and the wall separating the dining room from the kitchen has been removed
there was a tiny door that led to the kitchen that made
the space look even smaller and very dark
 The new designed  kitchen will have a white bead-board ceiling
  the wolf range/stove will be on the left
 and the french farmhouse sink will be on the right
 just below the window
 to the left of the sink will be a subzero glass front refrigerator

via

The Subzero  refrigerator
 looks like this one

Adding windows to this bedroom has
 helped to make it feel bigger
The large original cabinets are staying and the new window
will now have a window seat
 that looks out to the pool
removing the vanity table and mirror and adding a window
helped add light to the room

Here is the front door can you see the ceiling
 it has been raised to bring in height and more light
The stairway to the upstairs bedroom
has been opened up
so you are not walking upstairs in what felt like a dark tunnel

Pretty view of Coronado yacht club from the new balcony upstairs
   just off the master bedroom
{sorry these pics are bad took them with my iPhone}

That's the remodel update for this week
check back often
 the kitchen cabinets and drywall get installed in a few days
as well as the bead board
So excited to have the opportunity to help design and transform this home
 and to share with you the transformation

Kitchen Chalkboard

Hi Everyone
Happy Tuesday
{Love}
 kitchens with chalkboards
they always make my heart skip a beat
notice the color of the chalkboard
in this photo from
The sliding barn door is pretty amazing too
The chalkboard in this kitchen is the perfect size and shape
still a favorite did you notice the details
the vintage stove, kitchen aid mixer, enamelware bread box
the open shelf for the glassware, the farmhouse sink
{Love}

via
I found this chalkboard a few years ago
{Love}
the green !!!!
This is a great idea painting just the inside panel of the
pantry door , simple and not too overwhelming
 this picture is from Country living magazine found here
did you know you can customize the color of  chalkboard paint
I found this fabulous Rust-oleum paint
at Home Depot
You can mix the chalkboard paint to match any of these fun colors
The chalkboard can even be pink!!!!
{Love}

the green tint to this chalkboard
A  black chalkboard is just too dark for our kitchen
can't wait to show you what we are painting

White Kitchen clean

 Hi Everyone
 Happy Monday
♥
{Love}
 a clean kitchen
 Kitchens can get what I like to call
clogged up

 Not "in the sink" clogged up
 but clogged up with too much stuff
Stuff on the counter tops appliances everywhere

 Taking inventory
of the stuff on the counters and deciding what really is necessary
 helps to unclog
Sometimes just putting something in a different spot or adding flowers
{always my first solution LOL}
can lighten up the kitchen
~Less is more ~
So I am taking stock looking around to see what I can put away or eliminate and what can be moved to a cabinet or drawer
 The blender and the mixer went into a cabinet
and the kitchen feels a little lighter already
It is still a work in progress but we are going in the right direction
Grateful today for storage space
 and a clean kitchen

Kitchen Appliances

Hi Everyone
Happy Monday

Do you  have hidden kitchen appliances
you know the ones I am talking about they are stuck
in the back of the cabinet the ones
that you don't even remember that you
bought  like .....

 The Chopper
 The juicer
 The salsa maker
The ice cream maker
the snow cone maker
 the crock pot
 the toaster oven
the Panini maker

all of these appliances and gadgets were stuffed in our kitchen cabinet
 I can honestly say we have used the crock pot , toaster oven
and the panini maker more than once
but the rest of these gadgets have not been touched in years
  They are now on their way to the donation bin at Goodwill
Here is where I need your help
I am trying to decide if I  really need one of these....

 ~ Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer~

While making cookies this weekend
my Husband suggested we get one
Do you have one and do you use it or
does it sit in your kitchen cabinet with all of the other neglected unused appliances?
I do
{Love}
that it comes in white
All your comments will be appreciated
I hope y'all had a weekend filled with joy

Kitchen Chalkboard

Hi Everyone
When I saw this chalk board in
Cottage living magazine
I instantly fell in
{Love}
with the idea of a chalkboard in the kitchen

I grabbed the small one that I had and quickly hung it on the cabinet door in the kitchen
Trust God
is a favorite saying in our home

This little white easel chalk board
fits right in our kitchen
When I first brought this home my son decided to do a drawing of a star with
the words I love .....
and all of our names

I so adore looking at this every day that I have saved it

Now when I look at it
I am so grateful that I had the chalk board in the kitchen
This is a moment in time
that I treasure.

Decorating tips for Christmas

 Hi Everyone
Happy Monday
here are the rest of the
*Top 10 Decorating tips for Christmas*
{6-10}

Tip # 6
*Decorate in Unexpected places*
  The main focal points to decorate  in your home are
  your Tree, the Mantle and your Front door
 the fun begins when you start decorating in the
unexpected places
We always have a small tree in each of the children's bedrooms
They have their own ornaments and get to decorate their tree
Love to have a real wreath on the inside of the kitchen door
a wreath over mirrors in the dining room and wreaths on the french doors too
It smells amazing and looks pretty too
Tip # 7
*Look to the kitchen*
Gingerbread cookies and  gingerbread houses,
sugar cookies ,candy canes things found in the kitchen all can help to decorate your home
last year we used white granulated sugar
  for our homemade  snow men
the sugar looked just like real snow
 Cookies are great as decorations on the tree too
Don't think just because it comes from the kitchen
it can't be used as a decoration other places in your home
I love to put apples on wreathes and cranberries in jars with candles
I  have even been known to use a pineapple as a centerpiece for Christmas

Tip #8
*Make it Homemade*
Each year we try to make at least one Christmas ornament together
one year it was snow men, another gingerbread houses to hang on the tree,
Christmas would not be complete without a new family made ornament
The ornaments we make together
are the treasures that I cherish most

Tip #9
*Show off your Collections*

If you collect vintage treasures now is the time to show them off
This beautiful white ironstone serving bowl was used for our
advent calender last year
What ever you collect try using it when you decorate

Tip #10
*Have Fun*
The top ten  decorating tips would not be complete with out this last tip
remember the most important thing is
 to have fun decorating your home
 remember its not about the things you have or how perfect it all can look
its about making memories and sharing the

in your home
