Peaceful Life

Hi Everyone
 Happy Tuesday
The past few days we turned our television off
We don't watch much television anyway
so it is not a big sacrifice for our family
Ok...
 we can tape our favorite shows
 {TIVO}
 so it is not a sacrifice at all really plus when shows are taped
 we can fast forward through the commercials
{LOVE}
watching a one hour show in 25 minutes LOL

Every summer our family takes a TV vacation
We all reconnect
talk face to face
play cards and board games ,take walks, hold hands
We garden, arrange flowers,eat, have a fire in the fire pit, roast marshmallows
laugh and talk some more
The first year this happened by accident
 The power in our neighborhood went out and we had to make and eat dinner by candlelight
{this is when we decided to build the fire pit in the backyard}
It was so much fun
the rhythm of our lives changed
for a few days
We did not know what time it was
Life was peaceful

 When the power came back on we were all
surprised at
how loud everything seemed
We had enjoyed the quiet

Every year it seems we all like our tv vacation
even more than the year before
There is a renewal of togetherness and communication
that we are all grateful for
It was fun while it lasted
I am already looking forward to next year.......

romantic saying for today

"Dost thou love life?Then do not squander time for that is the stuff life is made of"

  2. I hear what you are saying... when my husband and I first met, we talk alllll the time and NEVER watched TV. We uh... communicated...lol. Now, we hardly talk and watch tooo much TV. :(

    Your flowers are so lovely. I enjoy their beauty. My flowers here in Indiana have just about all died. We are having a serious drought. I'm enjoying yours though. :)

  4. I have enjoyed your blog for a long time. Just reading it is calming to me. We are an active family and the idea of closing out "the world" is very appealing to me. Thank you for your thoughts.
    Also, will you do a blog on your glass bridal baskets. I also collect them. Thanks. Mary B.

  5. It's a great time to do it, too, especially with favorite Fall shows in repeats, Pam. There have been many days I've gone without the TV and really enjoy the quiet. I usually catch up on my reading or a project and if I feel the need for some "background" {like when hubby is away} I put some music on.

  6. Thank you for reminding us of what should be obvious and common sense. Couples and families need to communicate more and not allow electronics to shape our evenings together.

    I must commend you on your choice of kitchen countertops: White Tiles!

    Your kitchen looks so bright and shiny!How refreshing to see a kitchen without granite! Granite and stainless steel appliances remind me of the fashion world. When designers tell women to buy something new, whether shorter skirts or higher heels - everyone rushes out to buy them. It is my humble personal opinion that granite countertops have become so mundane that they lack whatever chic aspect they were originally meant to inspire.

    1. Thank you Patricia for noticing the white tile counter tops and I completely agree with you about the granite not for me
      I love that the 4x4 tiles can be replaced and added to easily They are affordable and they have a very cottage feel
      Blessings sweet friend
      I hope you visit often
      Love
