Afraid of Color

Hi Everyone
Happy Saturday

Have you noticed the decorating trend
muted, burlap, industrial
no color
  {have you seen the restoration hardware catalog}

We seem to be afraid of decorating with color
Don't get me wrong
I love an all white palette
but that is just the canvas for the room
the starting point
the fun begins by adding the accent colors that make the room come alive
When decorating with certain colors small accent  pieces can perk up an entire room
The well placed pink and green items look alive in the picture above
{Love}
the pink blanket on the white linen slip covered chair
the pink and green pillow, the flowers even the decorative boxes on the book shelf
all the colors are cohesive
The great thing about this is you can easily change the mood of this room by simply changing the color of these few items

Here is another example of a pink and green color palette and
well placed treasures
the green stool, the vintage pink and green table cloth
even the green enamelware pieces all work together well

This is a beautiful way to add pink to any room
the simple pink shell looks amazing
with the the turquoise in this kitchen
In this living room the slightest hint of pink
in the vintage blue and pink floral pillows gives this room a beautiful muted color palette and matches the stunning  color inside the china cabinet
The bolder pink and red statement
found here almost feels masculine in this room
but very romantic
I say bring on the color
Don't be afraid
Let's experiment with color and have fun
Look at the colors that you wear everyday
that will give you a great place to start when decorating your home
I remember a wonderful quote by
Jackie Kennedy
" Our lives are like a painting and I want every color in it"

linking with  Pink Saturday

 romantic saying for today
"Give the highest priority to tenderness, gentleness and kindness"
unknown

  1. I wholeheartedly agree. White or neutrals need a hint of color in my book! xoxo

  2. Amen sister - white is wonderful but it needs a hint, a kiss, of color. Your examples and why they work are great.

  6. I love this post Pam. I tend towards the whites and neutrals with a touch of blue/green. But I really want one room with wow factor, some raspberry red or something like that. I used to have a very colorful house, and the neutrals have been a welcome break from that for awhile.

  7. These pictures are stunning.! I really love the one of the living room with the pale blue accents in the china cabinet. I could never do all white...too sterile. What if hubby left out one of his black socks! lol!!

  8. My World has always been saturated with Color... it wouldn't be Bohemian without it and that is how I feel most comfortable. I enjoy beholding those lovely rooms that others create in monochromatic or colorless Styles, but it just isn't for me. I'm just naturally drawn to the Exotic, Jewel Tones or even Sepia Tones much more strongly.

  9. I do not like the industrial, dirty look. Everything in the Restoration Hardware catalog looks dirty and depressing. And these dark brown and gray interiors I am seeing everywhere would make me want to slit my wrists. None of it is pretty! *steps off soapbox*

Your post and your home is pretty, Pam.

  12. I love the whites with the hint of color...of course, it will never happen in my home. I love color. ♥ And it will always be part of me. I enjoy the feeling that different colors give to me.
