Hi Everyone
Happy Tuesday
♥
Do you polish your silver on a regular basis
I know Martha Stewart does...
or are you like our family
we usually polish the silver just before a special occasion
This vintage heirloom piece
has not been polished yet but it still looks pretty with it's tarnished patina
it was my Grandmothers
No one in the family can remember if or when she ever used this for jelly
or condiments
it was usually sitting on the dining room table filled with flowers
or just like this filled with beautiful magnolia leaves
from the tree in her front yard
or condiments

all the fabulous details
all the fabulous details
look at the tiny little flowers around the feet
and the elegant handle
The pressed glass containers are very
large and removable
Family Heirlooms hold precious memories
One of my favorites was watching my Mom and Grandmother with all of the Aunts and Cousins
talking and laughing together as they polished the silver before a family celebration
now when we polish the silver
I am so grateful to be able to keep the family memories and traditions alive
romantic saying for today

What a beautiful piece. It looks fine not polished. How wonderful you have your Grandmother's silver and the memories that come with it.
ReplyDeleteLovely post. I remember my Nana and great aunts polishing silver too. Happy memories...beautiful heirlooms. :)
ReplyDeletewe will keep it in the family forever...and knowing our family it was used for ketchup ;)
ReplyDeleteThey are so perfect and even more so that they have such fond memories to go with them.

so sweet!
ReplyDeleteYou are so fortunate to have such an exquisite heirloom, it sounds like you cherish it. Those kinds of heirlooms are so precious. can be handed down thru the generations. That heirloom is exceptional.
ReplyDeleteThe problem sometimes is that when people inherit them they don't always appreciate them for what they are. Maybe the heirloom doesn't fit with their decorating scheme. Understandable.
I can admit I didn't appreciate some things my ex-husband and I received from his family right after we were married. I still have a few pieces and I'm remarried for a long time. We've moved many times from state to state but I cherished those pieces and they're intact. I hope one of my 3 older children will one day want some or all of them. I'd hate to see them go to a yard sale or thrift store.
Lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteI LOVE vintage silver pieces and have collected them for years.
I'm like you... I polish only for special occasions. I actually like the patina and prefer them in their natural state.
Thanks for sharing.
Will visit again soon.

I have my mom's and my aunt's silver, along with my own chosen for our wedding 40 yrs. ago. Altho some it may be tarnished, really dark,I love using it. I grew up where the dining room table was always set with the china, crystal and silver. Today, I have 4 tables in my house and ALL 4 of them are set as I type! Whatever the season or holiday, the dishes change! Sometimes there's silver, sometimes not.
