Vintage Shopping Test #12

Hi Everyone
 Happy Friday
Are you ready for another
~vintage shopping test~
This one is fun
Here are two pretty silver jewelry boxes
The larger jewelry box
has a darker patina and
a elegant rose pattern

With green velvet inside
The smaller jewelry box
has a carnation pattern
{Love}
 the little feet

The smaller jewelry box
does not have a lining
 Both of these jewelry boxes
 have a beautiful design
but one of them is a real vintage treasure
One is worth $ 25 dollars and the other is worth $250 dollars
Do you think you know which one is the real vintage treasure?

If you chose the jewelry box with the velvet lining
YOU
are RIGHT  !!!!!!

This jewelry box is a Victorian  beauty
and one of my favorite finds
the other box is adorable too
It is a reproduction

How did you do did you pick right ?
please let me know how you did

Lovelovelove the lining in the old one, I wish they still lined jewelry boxes like that!

  4. Hi Pam,

It is funny, because my husband and I BOTH love your little tests! He always seems to get 'em right! I missed this one. Maybe I will beat him on the next one.

Thanks for these vintage shopping tips. I really love learning about vintage items.

    Have a good weekend,
    Sarah :)

  6. Yup, I got it right and what beautiful boxes! A little history on the lining...typically these were lined with silk and at that time silk was processed with materials such as lead and tin to add weight back to the silk after it was degummed. This was important because silk was sold by weight rather than by the yard. The lead and tin made it deteriorate quickly--as far as lasting in years, which is also why most crazy quilts--also having been made with lots of silks are so tattered. The silk simply deteriorates. I love the teal velvet!

On my birthday (9/22) we went to Mt Dora to Reninger's... I bought the teeny tiniest brass colored jewelry casket with the original lining. I love it... it isn't Jenning's Brothers but it is marked on the bottom... I forget the initials off hand. I don't have a blog so I can't show it to you unless I photo it and post it on my FB page.
